Free Agent Radar
Free Agent Radar finds physicians and advanced practice clinicians who recently became available to hire because their contract ended or their practice or hospital closed or filed for bankruptcy. It compares Medicare's monthly enrollment lists to see which clinicians left their practice and have not joined another one, then adds each clinician's NPI number, credential, every specialty, license state, and practice city and phone from the national NPI Registry. A researched list of hospital and practice closures and bankruptcy filings flags clinicians at failing employers, often months before Medicare's records catch up.
It is designed for hospital and health system recruiters, medical group administrators, practice managers, locum tenens and staffing firms, and anyone filling physician, NP, PA or CRNA openings.
The tool above is a sample build with fictional clinicians. Client versions are built from public CMS and NPI Registry data for the states each organization recruits in, starting with Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin.
What each lead shows
-
Name, credential and NPI number
-
Medicare specialty plus every specialty on the clinician's NPI record
-
License state and practice city and phone
-
Former practice, how many clinicians it had, and the month they left
-
The signal: practice closed, left an open practice, or still at an employer that is closing services or in bankruptcy
-
The news story or court filing behind every closure and bankruptcy
How the list is built
Each month CMS publishes the Revalidation Reassignment List, which shows every clinician who bills Medicare through a practice or hospital. Free Agent Radar compares each month with the one before it. A clinician who drops off a group and does not appear with any other group becomes a lead. Leads are removed when the NPI has been deactivated, the clinician opted out of Medicare, moved their practice out of the region or already joined a new group. Clinicians who left a university or teaching hospital in June through August are flagged as likely graduating residents and fellows. Practice city and phone come from the clinician's public NPI record; home addresses are never collected.
Frequently asked questions
Where does the information come from? Only public sources: the CMS Revalidation Reassignment List and Medicare opt-out list, the national NPPES NPI Registry, and news coverage and court filings for closures and bankruptcies. Every closure on the list links to its source.
Can it tell whether a clinician was terminated or resigned? No public source says why a clinician left. The list shows whether their practice is still operating, which separates clinicians whose practice closed from those who left an open practice. Every lead should be confirmed directly before an offer.
Which clinicians are included? Physicians (MD and DO) and advanced practice clinicians: nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurse anesthetists and nurse midwives. Clinicians who do not bill Medicare, such as some cash-only practices, do not appear.
Which states does it cover? The standard build covers Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. Other states can be added; each one uses the same monthly Medicare data.
How often is the list updated? Monthly, when CMS posts its new enrollment list. Each refresh keeps the same dashboard and adds a new Excel workbook for your recruiting team.
Is this the live version? The page shows a sample build with fictional clinicians and NPI numbers. Client versions use real public data for each organization's recruiting region.
